Tirana Albania Travel Guide

Tirana is Albania's capital, set inland below Mount Dajti, with the Adriatic coast at Durres within reach. Skanderbeg Square anchors the centre, Blloku holds much of the dining and nightlife, and the bunkers, the mountain and the old towns beyond the city all sit on bookable tours, from free tip-based walks to full-day trips.

One Day In Tirana: Skanderbeg Square To Blloku

A first day here works on foot. Begin at Skanderbeg Square beside the Clock Tower and the Et'hem Bey Mosque, eat at the New Bazaar, then wander toward Blloku as the evening bars fill up.

Tirana Neighbourhoods At A Glance

Skanderbeg Square is the fixed point of the city, the Clock Tower beside it and the New Bazaar a short stroll away, so a first morning can cover all three on foot. Blloku, once the officials' quarter, is the cafe and nightlife district, and the Pyramid sits at its edge, opened in 1988 and renovated for its May 2023 reopening, now home to TUMO Tirana. The Grand Park and its artificial lake close the built-up city with paths made for slow afternoons. Mount Dajti, above the capital, anchors the mountain-and-outdoors side of the roster. Most visitors base themselves in the centre or in Blloku, keeping sights and evenings walkable.

Getting Into Tirana From Rinas Airport

Nene Tereza airport at Rinas handles nearly all flights into Albania, and the capital sits a short drive beyond the terminal. For now there is no passenger train from the airport: a rail branch is under construction, with services not expected before 2027. Until then you arrive by road. Official airport cabs run 24 hours and cost about 2,200 lek one way. Confirm the fare before you get in.
